There is a high risk of excessive rainfall for the upper Texas coast Wednesday into Wednesday night, including Houston and Galveston, according to NOAA's Weather Prediction Center. Imelda is moving northward through southeastern Texas with heavy rain extending to the south and east of its circulation center.Parts of Brazoria, Galveston, Harris and Matagorda counties have picked up over 9 inches of rain from Imelda.

Rain was falling at the rate of up to 5 inches an hour in Matagorda County early Wednesday morning, where a flash flood warning was issued. Sargent, Texas, picked up just over 17 inches of rain in 12 hours overnight Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, leaving one county road (FM 457) impassable, according to the National Weather Service.

According to Houston Transtar, some high water was reported Wednesday morning on the south side of the Houston metro area along Interstate 45 in Friendswood and Webster, along the south and southeast sides of Beltway 8 and on the Interstate 610 loop westbound.Flash flood watches have been issued by the National Weather Service for much of the upper Texas coast, including Houston and Galveston, and for a portion of southwestern Louisiana.

In general, 6 to 12 inches of rain is a good bet over southeastern Texas, including the Houston metro area, through late this week. Some areas could pick up 18 inches of rain where rainbands stall.

Rainfall amounts this high could lead to flash flooding, despite initially dry ground, particularly in urban areas. This is especially the case where bands of rain stall and move over the same areas for several hours at a time with rainfall rates of 1 to 4 inches per hour.

Locally heavy rain is likely to expand northward into much of eastern Texas, mainly east of the Interstate 35 corridor, as Imelda moves north over the next few days. Much of inland eastern Texas will receive 2 to 5 inches of rain as Imelda moves northward.

It's important to note that rainfall amounts could vary greatly over short distances, so it's difficult to predict exactly where the worst flooding could occur.

"The difference of just a few miles could be the difference of several inches of rain," the National Weather Service in Houston said in its forecast Tuesday morning.

If you are traveling and encounter a flooded road or underpass, do not attempt to drive through the floodwaters.

The single worst decision you can make in a flash flood is driving your vehicle into floodwaters of unknown depth.

It's easy to misjudge the depth of floodwater, particularly at night. Sometimes the bridge or road masked by floodwater may have been undermined or completely washed out.

Of the 80 flood-related deaths in the U.S. so far in 2019, 53 of them occurred while driving, according to statistics compiled by the National Weather Service in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Drought Help Where Rain Isn't Excessive
Rain will be beneficial where it isn't excessive since drought conditions have developed in Texas this summer.

As of Sept. 10, just over half the state is experiencing drought and more than 70% is at least abnormally dry. It hasn't rained in Dallas-Fort Worth since Aug. 30.

Í da, mưa suốt từ hôm thứ hai đến giờ. Ban ngày mà trời lúc nào cũng mịt mờ như sắp tối. Hôm qua dầm mưa câu được 5 con catfish. Bữa nay sợ quá không dám ra hồ nữa, nước bắt đầu dâng cao hơn và mưa dầm suốt ngày, sợ bị bịnh.

Chỉ là mưa thôi, không có gió mạnh. Làm biếng ra ngoài ướt át mệt quá. Ở nhà coi phim sáng giờ.
Hồ nước có dâng lên nhiều nhưng chưa tới đâu đâu. Khu này ít khi nào nước ngập tới nhà, ngay cả trận Harvey lịch sử tháng 8 năm 2017.

mai mắn bên này không có mưa.......vẫn bắn chim đều đều.....nhưng tuần tới thì khác à )....

Chưa thấy gì hết Mây ui. Đậu rồng trồng ở Freeport mà hổm giờ mưa ở đó mịt mù luôn, còn nhiều hơn Baytown hay Houston, nước biển tràn lên cao hơn nhiều, hổm giờ không có ai đi biển tắm được luôn vì nước ngập tới entrance.
Hôm chủ nhật có ghé thăm đậu rồng thì thấy chưa ra bông, lúc đó mình còn kéo dây nước ra tưới, ớt hiểm thì chín đỏ cây, mướp có vài ba trái, đậu ngự chưa thấy ra bông, đậu bắp thì già ngắc vì không ai hái. Tui hái một mớ dưa leo ở đây cho tenants xong về nhà, quên hái ớt.
Bên Mây vậy chắc đậu rồng ra trái không kịp ăn quá nếu drop dưới 50. Mình nhớ phải trên 50 độ nó mới sống nổi

Mưa nhiều khỏi tưới cây, tưới rau, nó cũng tốt hơn mình tưới nữa. Nhưng mà không có nắng cũng mệt, bầu bí ra bông không thụ phấn được, không đậu trái nhiều bằng nắng. Chỉ cần mỗi ngày vài ba tiếng nắng cũng ok, cái này trời cứ âm u, cây cối ướt nhẹp

May ở PA . Bông ra chi chít chắc vì nó ở trong nhà 6-7 tháng mùa đông, tới mùa hè mới cho ra nên nó mọc mạnh, soil thì cũng thường thôi, trim là tỉa bớt mấy cành cho nó thưa chứ nhiều quá đem vô nhà đâu có chỗ .
