The US Women's Soccer team has won the World Cup in 2015 & 2019. After they won the last WC in 2019, they sued to get "equal pay" as the Men's Soccer Team. The media claimed that Men winning pay for the WC was 4x higher than the Women's. However the judge now ruled against the Women's claims because:

1) The Women was offered the same deal as the Men and they rejected before. They wanted guaranteed salary and other benefits such as health insurance, maternity leave pay etc. Hence their pays per game for each win/tie/loss is less and also get pay alot less if they go to the WC and win. The men's team does not want benefits but only want money for each game.
2) The funny thing is that the Men would have gotten paid more if they got the Women's deals and vice versa.

Just like at some nail salons the staff is offered a guaranteed minimum salary but will get a lesser % split than if there's no guaranteed salary. Since the Women's team won the last 2 World Cups, they would have made more money if they had taken the Men's deal and the Men's team did poorly so they would have made more money if they had the Women's deal.
