Delta will hike insurance premiums and limit sick pay for unvaccinated employees
Delta Air Lines is raising health care costs for employees who insist on staying unvaccinated.
The airline said that as of November 1, unvaccinated staff will pay up to $200 a month more for their company health insurance, depending on the coverage. It will also limit the number of sick days unvaccinated employees are allowed to take if they contract Covid-19.
It will also require unvaccinated employees to take weekly Covid tests.
"While we can be proud of our 75% vaccination rate, the aggressiveness of the variant means we need to get many more of our people vaccinated, and as close to 100% as possible," said Bastian.
"The average hospital stay for Covid-19 has cost Delta $50,000 per person," said the airline. "This surcharge will be necessary to address the financial risk the decision to not vaccinate is creating for our company."
Since the rise of the Delta variant, whose name has nothing to do with the airline, all cases of Covid-19 among Delta employees have been among the unvaccinated, according to the company.

Very likely Delta has a "self-insurance" health plan meaning they hire a company to pay all the insurance claims that employees/doctors/hospitals are submitting. However Delta is one that foots all those bills in the end. Hence it's makes sense that they are charging those "higher risk" employees more if they are not vaccinated. Otherwise their costs would sky-rocket and it's unfair to charge the other employees by increasing their premium next year because these "unvaccinated" employees are incurring more costs.

American, Alaska Air will end pay protections for unvaccinated staff if they contract Covid
American Airlines and Alaska Airlines will no longer cover Covid-19 quarantine time for employees who aren’t vaccinated against the virus, the latest push to get staff inoculated.
“Going forward, given there is an FDA-approved vaccine, pandemic leave will only be offered to team members who are fully vaccinated and who provide their vaccination card to us,” American said in a staff memo Thursday. The change starts Oct. 1 and unvaccinated workers will have to use their sick time or medical leave if they miss work because of Covid.
The similar policy at Alaska Airlines went into effect Aug. 30.
