Boeing 737 passenger jet crashes in China with 132 people on board
A China Eastern Airlines Boeing 737 crashed with 132 people on board, including 123 passengers and nine crew members, China’s aviation authority said Monday.
Contact was lost with the flight over Wuzhou, in the mountainous Guangxi region, the authority said. It was scheduled to fly from Kunming to Guangzhou in the southeast of the country.
The flight — believed to be the MU5735 — left Kunming at 1:11 p.m. local time (1:11 a.m. ET) and was due to arrive at its destination in under two hours, according to information on FlightRadar24. The flight-tracking website shows that the Boeing 737-800 plane began to descend sharply after 2:20 p.m. local time.
The number of casualties is currently unknown.
China’s Civil Aviation Administration said it had “activated the emergency mechanism and dispatched a working group to the scene,” according to a translation. Chinese state media said the crash had caused a mountain fire.
China Eastern Airlines confirmed the crash and the number of people on board via a statement on Weibo, China’s version of Twitter. The airline said it is sending workers to the site of the crash and has opened a hotline for family members.
The Federal Aviation Administration said it is “aware of reports that a China Eastern Airlines Boeing 737-800 plane crashed this morning in China.”
“The agency is ready to assist in investigation efforts if asked,” the FAA said in a statement.
Boeing said it was “aware of the initial media reports” and is gathering more information.
Typically when a crash takes place, the country where the crash occurs leads the investigation, but Boeing as the manufacturer and its regulator, the FAA, will also likely be involved.
China Eastern changed the colors of its website to black and white — something airlines do following a crash out of respect for any casualties.
Chinese President Xi Jinping said he was “shocked” to learn of the incident, according to state media CCTV. He instructed China Eastern to organize search and rescue efforts and begin an investigation into the cause of the crash.
The last serious passenger plane crash in China was in 2010, when 42 people died on a Henan Airlines Embraer E-190 flight.

“The aircraft involved was a 6-year-old, so a very young 737-800, which has a stellar safety record all over the globe,” said Macheras.
“We are talking about an aircraft that makes up the entire fleet of European low-cost airline Ryanair. An airline aircraft that is in service with American Airlines, Qantas, FlyDubai, Ethiopian, KLM,” he added, saying the plane is used to performing in very difficult conditions.
According to travel analytics firm Cirium, there are more than 4,200 Boeing 737-800s in service worldwide and 1,177 of them are in Chinese airlines’ fleets.

1 black box recovered from China Eastern plane as investigation into cause of crash continues
China says one of two black boxes from the China Eastern plane that crashed Monday was found in severely damaged condition. The recorder is so damaged that officials are not able to tell whether it is the flight data recorder or the cockpit voice recorder.
Mao Yanfeng, the director of the accident investigation division of the Civil Aviation Authority of China, told a news conference Wednesday that an all-out effort is being made to find the other black box.
Recovering the so-called black boxes is considered key to figuring out what caused the crash, which is presumed to have killed all 132 people on board.
The search for clues into why the Chinese commercial jetliner dove suddenly and crashed into a mountain in southern China had been suspended Wednesday as rain slickened the debris field and filled the red-dirt gash formed by the plane's fiery impact.

Máy bay mà rớt suddenly kiểu đó 0 thấy gọi May day chắc thằng pilot bị chuyện gì rồi. Mà thằng co-pilot 0 take over được thì có thể something happened in the cockpit.
