A temporary restraining order will remain in place for the next week while local, state and federal officials have a court-ordered meeting to discuss plans for using the Fairview Developmental Center as a quarantine site for coronavirus patients.
U.S. District Judge Josephine L. Staton said it seemed like a lot of the issues local representatives raised with the proposal could have been answered by better communication on both sides. After hearing in what they described as the eleventh hour about plans to use the now vacant facility, Costa Mesa leaders filed for the injunction late in the day on Friday, Feb. 21.
The idea of using Fairview, a multi-building campus on about 114 acres off Harbor Boulevard in Costa Mesa, as a quarantine site is being discussed by officials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services and several other state and federal agencies.
