I wouldn't say that the Chinese owned a part of the US. But the Chinese is the debtor of US Bonds and Securities. If they decided today that they are going to bankrupt America by flooding the market with all US Bonds and securities immediately by calling in the dues, then the US Government would have no money to pay up those bonds, and the economy will go into chaos, and a 2nd Depression will follow suit.

I think that would be a "murder-suicide" relationship had they decided to activate the sales.
